Bastrop Fire Victims Relief

Hello There

As someone who has grown up in Southern California, I have become familiar with the danger of wildfires and the threat they pose not only to nature, but people's homes, lives, and memories. Recently in my new home of Central Texas, there was a devastating fire that scorched over 34,000 acres of earth and burned down 1,386 homes outside of Austin in a city called Bastrop. Although I have had fires come within miles of my own home back in California, I have never actually experienced the loss of everything in a fire, and can hardly begin to wrap my mind around it.

After the fires were contained back in September, I decided I wanted to do a shoot out in the burn area. It started out as just an idea to capture what happened in Bastrop, and then evolved into a new thought. A thought to try and use my artwork to help benefit those who have lost so much.

Christina Svec, my model for this project, was also an inspiration for this idea. Christina decided to donate her services as a hairstylist to help benefit the victims of the fire. She was able to raise almost $500 by donating what she would have made in the salon straight back to into a fund for the victims. Such a simple idea, but a brilliant one.

So, my friends, with these photos I intend to sell prints and donate 100% of the proceeds to the victims of the fires. If you have the heart to buy some art for a good cause, are a moved to do so, please follow the link below. Otherwise, spread the word to those you think would enjoy this type of giving.

I know any amount of money can't bring back the homes these people had, but I hope this donation can bring some sort of relief to the families.

Thank you and God Bless,
-Kailey J. Flynn

Just for Fun

Had the day off today so I decided to rent the 50mm 1.4 and have some fun photographing some of Chris' old cameras. It was so nice to shoot for myself again!

Beth & James

Once upon a time in Grandbury, Texas...

There was a girl....

And a boy.

Friends and family gathered...

To watch them tie the knot.

Love filled the air...

As they danced and celebrated into the night.

...And they lived happily, ever, after!

Congratulations Beth and James!

Charles' Family

My cousin Jenee is supermom; she has a 4 year, a 2.5 year old, and recently has added two new additions: twin baby boys! I was so happy I was able to meet 7 week old Elijah and Ezekiel when I went back home to visit family this past week. And what better present to give a supermom than pictures of each of her beautiful babies?

Here are some snippets form the shoot:

Alyssa Daly

Ask most photographers and they would say their preferred type of model would be one that knows some form of dance. They inherently know their bodies better than most, know how to move, and know how to keep themselves poised.

My co-worked Alyssa just so happens to be a ballerina, so I jumped at the chance to take some dance-inspired portraits of her. It was fun to further explore Austin via location scouting, I really do love this city! And thanks to Alyssa for being a trooper despite the heat that day :)

Enjoy

Whole Foods

Hello world, this is what I love.

I did this shoot about two weeks ago and haven't had a chance to touch them yet because I have been working so much. However this didn't feel like work, because this is what I love. Going to the best Whole Foods in the country (the headquarters are in Austin) and picking out delicious treats to photograph is enough to make my day, any day.

Even when your "day job" takes up all of your time, I feel strongly that you still need to find things you love to shoot. That is what keeps me going and keeps me sane.

Enjoy :)

Miss Christina

Why hello blog...it has been FAR too long since the last time we spoke. Well I finally made it to Austin, and just so happen to have moved here when one of my very good friends Christina Svec did as well. After having a plethora of photography withdrawals, Christina agreed to lend me her gorgeous face for an afternoon for my first portrait session in Austin.

I love these because they express who Christina is....naturally beautiful, free spirited, and a breathe of fresh air. :)

There are some great locations here, and I am really excited about enviornmental portrait shoots in Austin!
